Compression testing

Unlike tensile tests grips, compression platens can often inhibit the access to a specimen.Unlike contacting methods though, our systems only require a line of site to the specimen that requires measurements thereby removing past limitations.Large strains of rubbers or ductile metals can be monitored without any threat of damage from crushing between the platens, whilst testing through failure improves operator safety from having to reach in to remove contact devices.

A range of gauge lengths from under 1mm to over 100mm is possible, allowing the specimen geometry to be designed independently of the extensometry device.

A 10VDC output can be generated from the video extensometer for integration with existing test machines and software strain channels.

Multiple point-to-point measurements can be made of axial and transverse strain allowing the system to act as an averaging biaxial extensometer.

Class 0.5 and B-1 requirements are met, even when testing for strains between 0.1 to 1% on short (10mm) gauge lengths

Small or large strains can both be measured accurately, making the system equally applicable for rubbers or composites.

No threat of damage exists for our system, allowing readings to be taken through failure for brittle materials.

Gauge lengths from 1mm to 1000mm can be monitored given the correct setup, enabling the monitoring of complex compressive tests on specimens and components.The high accuracy of the data enables additional insight in to design choices as both elastic and plastic yielding can be measured.
